Protesters demand Georgia withdraw ‘Russian law’
Protesters gathered in the streets of Tbilisi today, demanding that the Georgian government withdraw a controversial law that many see as giving too much power to Russia.
The law, which was recently passed by Georgia’s parliament, allows for the extradition of individuals to Russia without proper judicial oversight. Critics argue that this puts Georgians at risk of being unfairly targeted by Russian authorities.
Protesters carried signs that read “No to Russian interference” and “Protect Georgian sovereignty.” They chanted slogans calling for the government to listen to the will of the people and repeal the law.
The Georgian government has so far defended the law, saying it is necessary for maintaining good relations with Russia. However, protesters are not convinced and vow to continue their demonstrations until the law is repealed.
It remains to be seen how the government will respond to the growing pressure from its citizens, but one thing is clear: the people of Georgia are determined to stand up against what they see as a threat to their independence.
